The 14th Resolution
Greek artist and architect Mariana Bisti lands at Kuala Lumpur. It is two days after the election of May 9, 2018, which marked the first change of regime in Malaysia since it gained independence in 1957. It is the 14th election. In residence at the Kuala Lumpur Architecture Festival, she observes and documents the post-electoral landscape of the city over the two months of her stay. Using aerial drone shots, this two-channel work captures shifting and multiple perspectives. New kinds of visual experience are made possible by the disembodied, remote-controlled viewpoint. This video is something of an urban enterprise that explores and maps the organization of social and cultural life; the process is both intuitive and systematic, a result of constant circulation in the city. This work offers a double reflection on our interpretation of the subject and object of observation.

Mariana Bisti

Mariana Bisti (1981, Greece) is an Architect, Photographer and Visual Artist. Her art practice ranges across different media, including video, photography, public interventions, performances and installation. It can be described as an exploration of the contours of meaning and identities, through the processing of their equivocal formations and contingent representations. Traces, marks, manifestations of temporal presence are recorded and manipulated in an attempt to investigate the ubiquitous absence of certainty in our contemporary world. Implications of political and social issues are juxtaposed with solid forms and concrete spatial references, informing each other of the current human condition and its contextual ambiguities. Combining politics with aesthetics and forms has laid the ground for a practice that wishes to investigate its own limits between experience and knowledge. Over the last 5 years, Mariana has exhibited internationally, including shows in Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Taipei, Brussels, Paris, London, Brighton, Lisbon, Athens.
