Grande Polyphonie is a hydropoem in seven sequences. Christian Calon describes the material of his film as follows: “Water, in nature, is the only element that can exist in all three physical states of matter: liquid, solid, gaseous. Contrary to definitions, it does have a colour. In liquid state, it tends toward an immobility that the elements refuse to grant it. As a solid, it is lighter than itself. When a gas, it reveals to us the movements of the air and wind carrying it. In all its states, it is luminous and sonorous.” The product of looking and listening by a seasoned electroacoustic composer, Grande Polyphonie stems from research conducted over many years in a vast region north of the 45th parallel during which Calon captured sounds and images, which he subsequently processed and assembled in spectral, harmonic, rhythmic and spatial interrelation. The result is music for the eyes and cinema for the ears.

Ses oeuvres ont représenté le Canada et l’Allemagne et fréquemment lauréates de compétitions internationales. Dès ses premières oeuvres, largement diffusées, les différentes facettes de son travail reçoivent un accueil enthousiaste du public et de la critique.
Ses projets explorent le temps et la spatialité sous plusieurs formes : oeuvres radiophoniques, acousmatiques et improvisation sonore. Reprenant le fil de l’image depuis 2009, ses projets s’orientent vers une forme d’audiovision basée sur la composition simultanée de l’image et du son. Dans tout son travail, les modèles du réel occupent une place centrale. Ce sont les moyens de captation de la lumière et du son qui cristallisent sa curiosité pour le potentiel expressif des images immatérielles. La fréquentation d’oeuvres marquantes puis la rencontre d’artistes majeurs favorisent la voie du sonore et il passe des expérimentations de la chambre noire à celles de la chambre sourde. L’exploration des modalités de l’écoute et de la spatialité devient alors le fil conducteur de l’ensemble de son travail.
