Trailer
Maguy Marin’s May B is loosely inspired by the work of Samuel Beckett. With its ten clay-smeared dancers, May B depicts a humanity of the poor, the old, and the outcast, whose misshapen forms are the antithesis of classical and idealized representations of the dancing body. This is humanity at its most fragile and moving, doggedly pursuing its interminable journey, persisting against all odds, even in the shadow of the end of the world. “Finished, it’s finished, nearly finished, it must be nearly finished” are the words that open and close the performance, but for May B there is seemingly no end in sight: 40 years and 800 performances later, the piece lives on through its dusty figures who traipse back and forth, a rag-and-bone humanity
